When I met Melanie, she explained to me that her weight-loss journey has been this metamorphosis that had her looking back at photos with mixed feelings. I can imagine it to be bittersweet. You’re holding close to those memories while simultaneously wishing those images matched who you feel inside. I suggested an Elopement Photoshoot for her and her husband at one of their favorite restaurants, Liberty Street Bistro.
Melanie lost 160 pounds in total in the span of a year. She’s been transparent about her journey with weight loss surgery, her dedication to Cross-Fit, and her plastic surgeries on her Instagram where she coaches others through similar experiences. She has a wait-list to work with her for a reason; she’s funny, down to earth, relatable, and above all a kind person. It was my absolute joy to document this special event for her and her husband, Josh, because she said that when she looks at her wedding photos from years ago, she just feels and looks so sad.
I can understand that sentiment. I really wanted Melanie to have photos of herself that felt authentic to her, her style, and reminded her how far she’s come. With Liberty Street’s newest renovation and redecoration, thanks to Matt Smith from Newburgh Vintage Emporium, the deep green walls, statement vintage chandelier, and bespoke art pieces adorning the walls, it felt like the perfectly warm and intimate location. Not to mention Melanie and Josh are huge foodies and call this bistro their “favorite”, it was a no-brainer to have it there.
It’s my goal that each of my brides can look at their photos and feel so connected to the memories, themselves, their vision, and that they truly evoke joy. That’s why the number one feedback I’ve gotten from my couples is how I enhanced the way the day went, that my positive attitude and ability to delegate and keep everything on tight schedule helped them feel so relaxed and able to enjoy the day. That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? The two of you, loving each part of your day, and able to look back with happy memories.
